Ful medames is an ancient Egyptian dish with origins that date back to the time of the pharaohs. This simple dish is a slow-simmered combination of fava beans seasoned with olive oil, lemon juice, garlic and spices. This is the daily breakfast meal for millions of Egyptians.

It takes time to prepare this dish because most of the time cooking is spent soaking and simmering. so it is usually started the previous morning to have it ready for breakfast the next day and it is especially popular during Ramadan celebration.
